LCL and FCL for Importing Indonesian Furniture and Decor
Let us begin by discussing the preparation of your shipment to the nearest port. Our Cargo company will ensure everything is ready for loading. Another common inquiry pertains to the quantity of items you can import from Indonesia. The minimum shipment size ranges from one to two cubic meters, depending on the destination country. This shipment will be consolidated in a single container with other consignees, a method referred to as LCL, or “Less than a Full Container Load.” From this point, you can increase the cubic meters as needed for your shipment.
Alternatively, we offer FCL, or “Full Container Load,” for those requiring entire containers. Should you need further information, let us examine this in greater detail.
Full Container Load (FCL)
Full Container Load (FCL) is a term commonly associated with maritime freight transport. It denotes a shipping method where a sea freight container is entirely occupied by goods from one customer, with the container’s documentation issued to a single consignee.
When a customer has a substantial volume of goods to transport, opting for the FCL service is often preferable to renting a container and sharing it with other clients. Customers can select from various container sizes, including 20 feet, 40 feet, and 40HC feet, based on their specific cargo requirements.
The FCL service offers a practical solution for those who possess enough goods to fill an entire container and desire comprehensive control over the shipping process from beginning to end. Furthermore, FCL shipping typically provides a quicker and more efficient alternative compared to Less than Container Load (LCL) shipping, as it eliminates the need to consolidate multiple smaller shipments into a single container.
Nevertheless, FCL shipping does have its disadvantages. The overall shipping cost may be greater than that of an LCL shipment, as the entire container must be rented. Additionally, customers must ensure they have adequate storage space to accommodate a full container of goods upon its arrival at the destination.
In conclusion, FCL shipping represents a method of transporting goods by sea in which a container is fully loaded with items from a single customer. This option is ideal for those with sufficient cargo to fill a complete container and who wish to maintain control over the shipping process, although it may entail higher shipping costs compared to LCL options.
Less Than Container Load (LCL)
LCL, or Less Than Container Load, is a shipping method that allows for the transportation of goods by cubic meter when the volume of a purchase does not fill an entire container. The minimum capacity for this service is one cubic meter.
Less Than Container Load (LCL) is a term utilized in maritime freight transport. It describes a shipping method where a smaller volume of goods is consolidated into a sea freight container, rather than occupying the entire space of the container. When a client needs to transport a limited quantity of goods, opting for the LCL service may be more advantageous than leasing a full container.
In this arrangement, the client’s goods are grouped with those of other clients who are also shipping smaller quantities. These items are collectively loaded into a single container and dispatched to the designated destination. The LCL service presents a practical solution for clients who lack sufficient goods to fill a complete container and prefer not to incur costs for unutilized cargo space.
Additionally, it serves well for clients who do not possess the necessary storage capacity for an entire container of goods. Nevertheless, LCL shipping has its disadvantages. The loading and unloading process may be slower and less efficient, as it involves managing multiple small shipments rather than one large shipment.
Moreover, the expenses associated with LCL shipping are typically higher than those for FCL (Full Container Load) shipping, due to the extra costs linked to the consolidation and handling of various small shipments. In conclusion, LCL shipping is a method of transporting goods by sea where smaller quantities are combined with those of other clients and loaded into a sea freight container for delivery. This option is suitable for clients who do not have enough goods to fill a full container and wish to avoid paying for unused space, although it may be slower and more costly compared to FCL shipping.
If you have a freight forwarder, we are also able to collaborate with them and will ensure coordination throughout the process.
Capacity of Maritime Containers
Container dimensions for imports from Indonesia are as follows:
- A 20-foot container has a load capacity of 33.2 cubic meters and a maximum load weight of 25,000 kilograms.
- A 40-foot container offers a load capacity of 67.4 cubic meters and a maximum load weight of 26,470 kilograms.
- A 40-foot High Cube container provides a load capacity of 76.3 cubic meters, also with a maximum load weight of 26,470 kilograms.
Estimated Transit Time for Container Arrival
The estimated transit time varies by destination country. Containers will depart from the Port of Surabaya in Indonesia to the designated port of arrival. This journey typically takes between 21 and 35 days from the moment the vessel departs.
During the transit period, we continue to prepare and inform our clients, ensuring that all necessary documentation for customs clearance is ready for when the container arrives at the destination port, allowing for a smooth reception at your warehouse.
Port of Destination (Customs) Management
Once your container has arrived at the destination port, what are the next steps? There are specialized companies that handle all necessary procedures for the disembarkation of your goods, known as customs agencies or customs offices.
These agencies will facilitate the payment of applicable taxes in your country and can also arrange for the transportation of your products from the port to your warehouse. If you do not have a designated Customs Brokerage Agency, we can recommend several options and assist you in obtaining a quotation prior to the container’s arrival. Please feel free to reach out with any inquiries you may have. We are here to assist you and provide guidance on conducting business with Indonesia.
